A nineteenth-century vizier's palace of courtyards, painted cedar ceilings, and rooms for each of his wives. Deliberately built to be the greatest of its time.

A sixteenth-century royal necropolis sealed up by a later sultan and only rediscovered in 1917, which is why the tilework is intact.

Ninety minutes to Imlil, through Berber villages and switchbacks, with Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, at the head of the valley.

Walnut groves, terraced fields, and mule tracks between villages. A guide from the village is inexpensive and the right way to do it.
