3-Day Split Itinerary: A Day-by-Day Template

Split grew up inside a Roman emperor's retirement palace, and it never moved out. Diocletian's 1,700-year-old walls still hold shops, apartments, and cafés, so the ruins are the living center of the city rather than a fenced-off site. Three days covers the palace, the Marjan peninsula, and easy trips to Trogir and the hills above town.

Best time to goMay, June, and September give warm Adriatic swimming without peak crowds. July and August are hot and busy as ferry traffic to the islands peaks; spring and autumn are calmer.
Getting aroundThe palace core and Riva are entirely walkable. City buses reach Marjan, the beaches, and nearby Salona and Klis; ferries and catamarans leave the main port for Hvar, Brač, and other islands.
Local tip: Split is the gateway to the Dalmatian islands, so book island ferries in advance in summer and treat the port timetable as your anchor when planning day trips.
