How many days do you need in Morocco?

Seven days. That is the length of the itinerary we built for Morocco, across Marrakech, Fes and Chefchaouen.

Here is what each day holds. Every stop below carries its time, and every gap says how to get to the next stop, with the walk or drive time wherever both stops are mapped.

Morocco · 7 days Marrakech → Fes → Chefchaouen
Best time: March to May and late September to November, warm days, cool nights, and the Atlas passes open.
Marrakech: Jemaa el-FnaDay 1
🏛️9:00 AM
Jemaa el-Fna
The great square, UNESCO-listed for the nightly show itself, by day orange-juice carts, by night a smoking city of food stalls and drummers. Come in the morning for juice and relative calm, then return at dusk for the show.

🖼️1:30 PM
Dar Si Said
The national museum of weaving and carpets in a palace as fine as its collection, the fastest way to tell what the souk dealers are actually selling you.
🚶 ~13 min · 🚗 ~2 min · 0.5 mi
🌆6:00 PM
The Medina souks
The covered market maze north of the big square: dyers, metalworkers, and carpet dealers in their historic quarters. Getting lost is the method, not the failure.
Marrakech: Bahia PalaceDay 2
🏛️9:00 AM
Bahia Palace
A 19th-century vizier’s palace of painted cedar ceilings, zellij tilework, and courtyards built to hold gardens inside the city. Go early; it is everyone’s first stop for a reason.

🥾1:30 PM
Jardin Majorelle

🚶 ~37 min · 🚗 ~5 min · 1.4 mi
🎟️6:00 PM
Evening street-food walk
The Jemaa el-Fna stalls and backstreet grills with someone who knows which lines are long for a reason: tanjia, snail broth, and sheep’s head for the willing.
Marrakech: Ben Youssef MadrasaDay 3
🏛️9:00 AM
Ben Youssef Madrasa
Once North Africa’s largest Quranic college, 130 student cells around a courtyard of astonishing carved stucco and tile, freshly restored and reopened in 2022.

A 12th-century olive grove around a reflecting basin, with the Atlas floating behind on clear days, the locals’ picnic ground, free and calm.
🚗 ~8 min · 2.3 mi
🌆6:00 PM
Kasbah and Mellah
The old royal quarter and former Jewish district, quieter lanes, the Saadian Tombs at hand, and a spice market without the hard sell.
Arrive in FesDay 4
🚄8:30 AM
Train to Fes
Marrakech to Fes in about 6h30–7h on ONCF via Casablanca and Rabat, comfortable first class is cheap. A few direct flights a week offer a one-hour alternative.
🚄 ~6h45 · 240 mi
🏛️2:00 PM
Bab Boujloud
The Blue Gate: blue-tiled toward the world, green toward Islam, and the classic framing of the medina’s minarets. Both main streets start here.
🚶 ~13 min · 🚗 ~2 min · 0.5 mi
🌆6:00 PM
Fes el-Bali
The old medina, a UNESCO city of donkeys, funduqs, and workshop quarters. The two main arteries, Talaa Kebira and Talaa Sghira, keep you findable; everything else is glorious confusion.
Fes: Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and UniversityDay 5
🏛️9:00 AM
Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University
Founded by Fatima al-Fihri in 859 and often cited as the world’s oldest continuously operating university. Non-Muslims glimpse the courtyard from the doorways, the adjacent restored library facade rewards the detour.

🚶 ~13 min · 🚗 ~2 min · 0.5 mi
🎟️6:00 PM
Guided medina walk
Fes is the one Moroccan city where a licensed guide genuinely earns the fee, the artisan quarters, the etiquette, and the way back out of 9,000 alleys.
Arrive in ChefchaouenDay 6
🚌8:30 AM
Bus to Chefchaouen
Fes to Chefchaouen in about 4 hours by intercity coach through the Rif foothills, a few departures daily, so book the morning one; shared grands taxis run the same route slightly faster.
🚌 ~4h · 80 mi
🏛️2:00 PM
The Kasbah
The town’s founding 15th-century fortress on the square, much restored, gardens inside the walls and a tower view over the blue rooftops to the Rif.
🚶 ~2 min · 🚗 ~1 min · 325 ft
🌆6:00 PM
The blue medina
Steep washed-indigo lanes where every doorway is a photograph, small enough that getting lost lasts ten pleasant minutes.
Chefchaouen: Ras el-Ma springDay 7
🏛️9:00 AM
Ras el-Ma spring
The mountain spring at the medina’s top gate where the town still does its washing, follow the water channels back down through the lanes.
🚶 ~8 min · 🚗 ~1 min · 0.3 mi
🖼️1:30 PM
Kasbah Ethnographic Museum
Inside the fortress: Rif textiles, instruments, and photographs of the town before the blue, a short, worthwhile layer of context.
🚶 ~13 min · 🚗 ~2 min · 0.5 mi
🎟️6:00 PM
Sunset walk to the Spanish Mosque
The town’s evening ritual: a 30-minute hill path to the small abandoned 1920s mosque facing the medina, for the classic view of Chefchaouen going blue-gold as the lights come on.
